Recovery in India’s stock market

Thursday, September 2nd, 2004

Indian stocks have risen three days in a row and while analysts say a sustained recovery is no sure thing, it is a distinct possibility:

“The market mood is slowly turning bullish as major concerns like hike in global crude oil prices and the domestic inflation rate show signs of ebbing a bit,” said a fund manager with a foreign brokerage firm.

“While it may be too early to predict whether the market is on the path of sustained recovery, I think there is genuine buying interest among investors now,” the fund manager added.

“What is acting as a positive trigger for the stock market at this point of time is the impressive sales figure being unveiled by most of the big cement and automobile companies.”

Firm global equity markets also encouraged stock market players here to enlarge their portfolio.

As you may recall, I’ve read good things about India, China, and Thailand. I’m invested in CHA but at the moment have no holdings from India.
